The
New Threads single 7" in vinyl
SORRY/IN THIS TOWN (TWIST 29)
The Threads new double A-sided single, "Sorry" / "In This
Town", was launched at The Britalian Job in Nottingham on 26th January
where Long Tall Shorty played a scintillating set. The single is already
attracting a lot of interest with block adverts placed in NME (2nd and
9th Feb issues) and Februarys Record Collector magazine, and The Threads
have already taken a call from John Peel's producer regarding this release
(and hopefully a spin on his show will result from this).
Not
resting on their laurels, The Threads were straight back into the studio
the following 4 days working on tracks for their new album, "Long
Apart And Worlds Ago" - in this session they recorded "International
Times", "She's The One", "My Friend Johnnie Walker",
"Break Down The Barriers" and "Rainy Town". The album
has a projected release date of May/June.
The
Threads have also confirmed two "live" appearances -
you can catch them "live" at The Britalian Club in Nottingham
on 23rd March 2002,
and on 17th May 2002 at the Hastings Pier Weekender
13th July 2002 Party In The Park, Boston, Lincolnshire
3rd August 2002 Burton Brewers Inland Rally (TBC)
September 2002Small Faces Annual Convention, Ruskin Arms, London
Giant
The New CD EP (TWIST 30)
WISHING BONE/LISTEN TO ME/THIS IS ROCK
This is the future of Powerpop!
Giant - they're gonna be huge!
At Twist we're currently raving over these guys. The track 'Wishing Bone'
is a snarling, squealing rock pig, and is a limited release. Singer Al
Clay and bassist Richard Irvine - friends on meeting at junior school
in Warwick, have been in bands together from the age of 15 In early 2001
they met Edinburgh lad Moray McLaren through a mutual friend, and Giant
was born.
Electrifying live, great tunes - we're telling you now - Giant are gonna
be huge!
Summer
2000 - Solarflares 7" and CD single plus the long-awaited second Bronco
Bullfrog album. This will be out on vinyl and CD (for those who have complained
about the CD-only of their first release). The autumn, perhaps winter,
will look a lot brighter with the Small Faces tribute LP/CD on Twist.
The interest is huge and the list of bands is still open for those who
want to record a track. Sor far we can easily fill a double LP. You certainly
find some interesting stuff in the mailorder again. Many of the items
are rare and true bargains. I strongly advise customers to order by fax,
e-mail or phone. Many of the Records are just one-offs and will sell fast.
This is important: Due to bad experience payment is strictly in advance
(cash/IMO/cheque). You will receive your detailed invoice of items that
are available. No goods will be shipped before money is here. Sorry.
The Solarflares New Single.
After the realease of their debut album "Psychedelic Tantrum"
(Twist BIG 16 CD/LP) and a successful mini-tour in Germany The SolarFlares
went into Toe Rag in March to record three new tracks. All of them - Can't
Get You Out Of My Mind/Lunar Girl/Inside Of A Dream - will be featured
on the CD-version of the forthcoming Twist single (Twist 25/out July 17th).
The first and the second track go on the vinyl single. Again the sound
is raw and alive, maybe even more intense and passionate than on the LP.
"Can't Get You..." is certainly one of the finest songs Graham
Day has written in years. "Inside Of A Dream˛ may be slightly reminiscent
of The Buzzcock's "I Don't Mind". After "Apollo Go Go"
on the LP the band continues the series of Sci-Fi instrumentals with "Lunar
Girl". A new LP is planned for the late autumn. The tracks have all
been written and are ready to be recorded. The band will be on a longer
tour in Germany again in late November. This will probably feature ten
gigs. During the last tour The Solarflares had to cancel the last gig
for private reasons. They appreciate the effort everybody put in the shows
and were extremely sorry that they couldn't play Bremen. They have promised
to play there in November though. Their debut LP/CD "Psychedelic Tantrum"
still receives airplay throughout Europe (UK, France, Germany) and will
most certainly be sold out when the new album arrives.
Bronco Bullfrog Album "Seventhirtyeight".
Leicester and London based Bronco Bullfrog have finished with the recordings
for their second album on Twist in April. The LP/CD will be called "Seventhirtyeight"
(Twist Big 17). It features the following tracks: My New Skin Sweet Tooth
Blow Yourself Up 7:38 So The Wind Won't Blow It All Away Jigsaw Mind One
Day With Melody Love Out Of Reach In Underwood Get To Know You Keyhole
Any Morten, drummer and songwriter of the band, explains the choice of
the album title: "It is definitely gonna be called Seventhirtyeight
now. There were some spooky co-incidences in the studio where the number
7:38 kept coming up on tape machines and clocks and stuff at very opportune
moments. I think therešs a higher force at work here..." Other titles
the Broncos had played with were "Razz" (out of The Raspberries
and The Nazz) and "Bugeyed And Breathless" (a line from 7:38).
The missing two tracks were recorded in late February. The rough mix sounded
brilliant already, but the finsal mix of the LP blows it all away. Altough
influences of The Beatles, Badfinger, Beach Boys, Big Star, The Nazz or
The Who can be found between the lines throughout this is an album by
a band that has certainly created its own style of playing. Their blend
of fine sixties mod- and psych-pop with the occasional folk- and country-link
combined with a 90s feel is certainly unique. The album will be out in
August and the band can be seen live in Germany in October. More detailed
tour news in the next edition. Both The Solarflares and Bronco Bullfrog
have articles in the new edition of British "Shindig!" magazine.
Lost Treasures The next
release in Twist's Lost Treasures series is an EP by Belgian band The
Paranoiacs. For some reason a mastertape with eight songs has been on
the shelf since 1986. Four of them will appear on their EP "Meet
The Paranoiacs" (Twist 26/Lost Treasures 2). Tracks are: I Know A
Boy/I Need You/Potato Chip/Farmer John. Everybody who wants to know more
read Tim Gassen's raving cassette review in "Knights Of Fuzz".
Debut EP by The Snydes Another EP (Twist 27) will bring you the debut
by Garage-/Mod-band The Snydes from the Manchester area. Listen to their
very own treatment of Jacques Dutronc's "Le Responsable" in
"The Witch" and a raving version of the 13th Floor Elevators
"You're Gonna Miss Me". Two of their own tracks will make this
a real garage discovery. The band also takes part in The Small Faces tribute
with "Get Yourself Together".
Small Faces Compilation
The SMALL FACES tribute LP on TWIST RECORDS is due for release in late
autumn/early winter. Meanwhile the bill includes nearly 30 bands that
will easily fill a double album. Latest signings are Graham Day, guitarist
and singer of The Solarflares, with an amazing version of "Tin Soldier".
This was recorded a couple of years ago with Day as producer. Although
it comes close to the original in parts it has a fresh and modern 90s
touch to it. The opening riff alone is worth the admission. After The
Threads who play this years Small Faces convention in London with Afterglow
and 17Black two other convention bands have announced to be part of the
album. They will record a selction of songs including "Wham Bam..."
and "Don't Burst My Bubble". The Lears, Byrds-style band from
the States, have given and old recording of "E To D" some fresh
12-string-treatment. The result is a quite psychedelic-sounding version
of this German 7" B-side. Talking about Psychedelic: Mandragora Lightshow
Society (Germany) will do their very own version of "Song Of A Baker"
and Fantasyy Factoryy (Germany) will add even more colour to the psychedelic
and progressive shades of the album. "Autumn Stone" could be
their cup of tea, however this hasn't been confirmed yet. Much to everyone's
surprise Italian garage legend came up with an unreleased version of "Talk
To You". This is one of the nice moments when somebody opens his
box of treasures... More bands will make their choice of track soon.
